Installation Process for Fiber Cement Board

Before starting, prepare the following tools: hand saw, electric circular saw, nail gun, self-tapping screws, metal studs, sealant, etc. Depending on the application, there are three main methods.

1. Dry Construction Method (For Interior Walls, Ceilings)

  • Use large-head self-tapping screws and galvanized steel studs with a thickness of 0.8mm or above.
  • Recommended spacing for vertical studs is no more than 30cm.
  • Add horizontal braces within 1.2-meter intervals.
  • Leave gaps between boards: about 3mm for interior, 5mm for exterior.
  • When screwing, keep at least 1.5cm from the board edge, with screws spaced approximately 10cm apart in the field.

2. Hybrid Construction Method (Often for Walls, with Grouting)

  • It is recommended to use thicker galvanized studs, 1.0mm or above.
  • Spacing for vertical studs can be extended to 40cm.
  • Screw fastening is similar to the dry method.
  • The top and bottom rows of screws should be about 5cm from the edges.
  • Important: Joints between two layers of boards must not align; stagger them during installation.

3. Exterior Wall Construction Method

  • Recommended studs are 1.2mm or thicker galvanized material, spaced 30cm apart.
  • First install a layer of substrate board, then fix the fiber cement pressure board.
  • Finally, apply waterproofing and finish treatments.
  • For joints, it is recommended to use special joint filler or AB adhesive to enhance waterproofing and crack resistance.

Correct installation ensures the board’s performance is maximized. Keep the following points in mind:

1. The Stud Framework Must Be Secure
The light gauge steel studs used to fix the boards must be installed level and solid. This is the foundation for ensuring overall wall flatness and screw-holding power.

2. Fastening Sequence Matters
When installing boards, start fastening screws from the center of the board outward. This helps release stress effectively and prevents board warping or unevenness.

3. Screw Fastening Has Standards

  • Ceiling Boards: Screw spacing about 20cm.
  • Wall Boards: Screw spacing 20cm at edges, can be extended to 30cm in the field.
  • The center of screw holes should be 13-15mm from the board edge.
  • Screw heads should be driven about 0.3mm below the board surface, never protruding.

4. Rust Prevention is Essential
After fixing each screw, immediately apply a rust-preventive primer to the screw head. This prevents future rust stains that can affect appearance.

5. Special Treatment for Damp Areas
When used in bathrooms, wet areas, and tiling is required, ensure the board moisture content is below 10%. Then apply a sealing agent and use tile adhesive for installation. Direct use of cement mortar is strictly prohibited to prevent detachment.

6. Be Careful with Cutting and Drilling
When cutting openings in the board, mark the lines first. For square holes, first drill 10mm pilot holes at the four corners, then cut with a stone saw. For round holes, drill holes along the circumference before cutting with a jigsaw. Remember to clean up rough edges afterward.
